Day 1: Broome to Bungle Bungle Ranges (L,D)
Setting off early from Broome at 7.00am we travel through the
vast Kimberley outback to Purnululu National Park, recently listed as a World
Heritage site. This spectacular wilderness park is the home of the Bungle Bungle
Range. More than 20 million years of erosion and river movements have formed
these huge black and orange striped domes. Travelling via Fitzroy Crossing and
Halls Creek we tackle the rugged 4-wheel drive track into the national park,
arriving late afternoon at the Bungle Bungles. Here we enjoy a 2 night stay in
the heart of this World Heritage
wilderness.

Today we have the day to explore the Bungle Bungle Ranges
with our first stop at the stunning Echidna Chasm known for towering Livistonia
Palms, here you can take an easy to medium 2 km walk. We then travel to the
southern side of the Bungle Bungles Massif where we take an easy to moderate 3
km walk into the natural amphitheatre setting of Cathedral Gorge, here try out
the acoustics within this natural amphitheatre. Also while here an easy-paced
walk along the dry bed of Piccaninny Creek is the best way to inspect the domes
up close. This afternoon you have the option to take a scenic helicopter flight
over the Bungle Bungles (approx. $235pp, own expense), experience the thrill of
taking off in a helicopter and enjoy views into incredible ravines and gorges
below. Enjoy drinks as the sun sets over the Bungles, before returning to camp
for dinner.

Travel back along the rugged Bungles track and then onto
Fitzroy Crossing, arriving at Geikie Gorge to enjoy a picnic lunch. Join the
National Park Ranger for a fascinating cruise which takes us down the mighty
Fitzroy river through Geikie Gorge, with the chance to spot geological sea
fossils, crocodiles, exotic birds and other natie animals. From here it's only a
short drive to the Fitzroy River Lodge for our overnight stay. Tonight get to
know your fellow travellers while enjoying a campfire barbeque dinner prepared
by your driver/guide.

Day 4: Fitzroy Crossing to Broome (B,L)Accommodation: Fitzroy River Lodge, furnished safari cabins with private ensuite. 4 & 26 August, 15 & 30 September departure will stay night 1 at Fitzroy River Lodge then 2 nights at Bungle Bungle Bushcamp - itinerary will operate in alternative format
Our first stop is at one of the Kimberley\'s most famous
landmarks the Prison Boab Tree, once used to hold indigenous people. Here we
also view Myalls Bore, a 120 metre long trough built in the early 1900\'s used
to water up to 500 head of cattle at one time. We then travel along the
legendary \"Gibb River Road\", once used as the main stock route for the region.
We turn off to enjoy lunch and explore the pre-historic Windjana Gorge, regarded
as one of the classic features of world geology and a great freshwater crocodile
spotting site. From here we head to Tunnel Creek, an amazing 750 metre long
flooded tube tunnel. With torch in hand, take an exciting walk wading through
the tunnel in knee to thigh high water and hear of the story of the renowned
Aboriginal \'Jandamarra\' who used the tunnel as a hide-out. Following afternoon
tea, return to Broome with arrival approxiamtely 10.30pm after an en route
dinner stop (own expense).

Accessing Tunnel Creek walk involves 20 metres of clambering over boulders and 700 metres of wading through knee to thigh high water (shorts are ideal). Strap on sandals or old sand shoes must be worn through the water to protect from the rocky creek bed. To safely navigate the Tunnel passengers must be able to walk and balance themselves independently on uneven ground. Flashlights and limited footwear is provided.
